Bret Harte (1836-1902) was an American short story writer and poet who also turned out plays, lectures, and magazine sketches over a career of more than four decades. He is best remembered for tales of miners, gamblers, and other colorful figures of the California Gold Rush. The Luck of Roaring Camp, first printed in the Overland Monthly, made him famous across the country. Radio Days includes broadcast versions of that story and of The Outcasts of Poker Flat.
