Harold Lloyd (1893-1971) was an American comedian who made nearly 200 films between 1914 and 1947, many built around his eager, bespectacled Glasses character. The image of him dangling from a clock high above the street in Safety Last! remains one of the best-known pictures in movie history. In the 1920s he was the highest-paid performer in film, and in 1953 he received an honorary Academy Award as a "master comedian and good citizen." From 1944 to 1945 he hosted and directed a weekly NBC comedy anthology, heard in Radio Days as The Harold Lloyd Comedy Theatre.
