Wilkie Collins (1824-1889) was an English novelist and a pioneer of the sensation novel, best known for The Woman in White and The Moonstone. Many readers credit The Moonstone with shaping the detective story as we know it. A friend and protégé of Charles Dickens, Collins placed early stories in Dickens's magazine Household Words. Suspense brought The Moonstone to listeners in two parts, and his eerie tale A Terribly Strange Bed was heard on both Suspense and The Weird Circle.
