Play Academy Award Theater on Radio Days
Each week a star who had been nominated for an Oscar played in a half-hour version of a film, play or novel. Academy Award ran on CBS from March 30 to December 18, 1946, for E. R. Squibb & Sons, opening with Bette Davis in Jezebel. Dee Englebach produced, Frank Wilson wrote the adaptations and Leith Stevens wrote the music. Squibb had signed for years but dropped it after 39 weeks: the stars cost $4,000 a week and good scripts ran short.
