Play Gene Autry's Melody Ranch on Radio Days
Gene Autry's Melody Ranch opened with "Back in the Saddle Again" on CBS from January 7, 1940, to May 16, 1956, all of it for Wrigley's Doublemint gum. Each half hour mixed Western songs with a dramatized adventure story. Pat Buttram supplied the comedy, with Johnny Bond and the Cass County Boys. Autry joined the Army Air Forces in 1942, taking his oath on the air, and the show became Sergeant Gene Autry until it was replaced in 1943; it returned in September 1945.
