Play Grand Ole Opry on Radio Days

George D. Hay started the WSM Barn Dance in Nashville on November 28, 1925, and in 1927 renamed it the Grand Ole Opry, as a joke on the grand opera program that came before it. WSM's 50,000 watts carried it across the South, and from 1939 NBC took a half hour of it nationwide as the Prince Albert Show. It moved to the Ryman Auditorium in 1943. It is the longest-running radio broadcast in American history.
