Play Orson Welles Almanac on Radio Days

The Orson Welles Almanac was a 1944 half-hour variety show on CBS, carried live on the network's Pacific stations. Orson Welles hosted, directed and co-wrote its 26 Wednesday-night episodes, which ran from January to July 1944 for sponsor Mobilgas. Each show mixed comedy sketches, drama, readings from the classics, magic, music and Welles's own commentary, with regulars Agnes Moorehead, Ray Collins, Hans Conried and Arthur Q. Bryan. Many episodes were staged at military camps, and a New Orleans-style jazz band Welles put together became a featured part of the show.
