Play Tennessee Jed on Radio Days
Tennessee Jed was a Western adventure serial for young listeners, running from 1945 to 1947. It started on Mutual in May 1945 and moved to ABC that September, where it stayed until the end. Johnny Thomas and later Don MacLaughlin played Jed Sloan, a sharpshooter from the post-Civil War South who heads west on his horse Smoky and eventually tracks outlaws on orders from President Grant. Each late-afternoon episode opened with a display of his marksmanship, and Jed often sang Western tunes with his guitar.
