Gilbert Patten, writing as Burt L. Standish, created the Yale athlete and all-around hero Frank Merriwell in 1896. On NBC from October 5, 1946, to June 4, 1949, Lawson Zerbe played Frank on Saturday mornings, with Hal Studer as his friend Bart Hodge and Elaine Rost as Inza Burrage. Yale's "Bright College Years" was the theme. An earlier serial ran on NBC in 1934.
