Play The Aldrich Family on Radio Days
"Hen-ry! Henry Aldrich!" "Coming, Mother!" Clifford Goldsmith's teenager began as a minor character in his 1938 Broadway play What a Life, then turned up in sketches on Rudy Vallee's show and The Kate Smith Hour. The Aldrich Family had its own series from July 2, 1939, to April 19, 1953, mostly on NBC and mostly for Jell-O. Ezra Stone, who had played Henry on Broadway, was the first radio Henry, and Jackie Kelk played his pal Homer. By 1941 it was rated alongside Jack Benny and Bob Hope.
