Play The Beulah Show on Radio Days

Beulah, the Hendersons' housekeeper, started as a character played by a white actor, Marlin Hurt, who did the voices of all three leads in his 1945 CBS show. By the 1950s Black actresses played her; in these 1953-54 fifteen-minute shows it's Amanda Randolph, with Ernest Whitman and Ruby Dandridge. Listeners today will hear the racial stereotypes the show was built on.
