Play The Cisco Kid on Radio Days
O. Henry introduced the Cisco Kid in his 1907 story "The Caballero's Way." On radio he became a virtuous wanderer, a sort of Robin Hood of the Old West. The first series ran on Mutual from 1942 to 1945 with Jackson Beck. The syndicated version, from 1947 to 1956, ran more than 600 episodes, with Jack Mather as Cisco and Harry Lang as his pal Pancho; Mel Blanc took over as Pancho after Lang died in 1953. Every show ended with a joke, a laugh, "Oh, Pancho!" "Oh, Cisco!" and the two riding off.
