"I am the Whistler, and I know many things, for I walk by night." The Whistler ran on CBS's West Coast network from May 16, 1942, to September 22, 1955, mostly for Signal Oil. The Whistler only told the story; the crimes belonged to ordinary people, and the endings usually turned on them. Wilbur Hatch wrote the theme, whistled by Dorothy Roberts. Columbia made eight Whistler films, seven of them starring Richard Dix. Of 692 episodes, more than 200 are lost.
