Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) was an American poet, biographer, journalist, and editor. His verse collections Chicago Poems, Cornhuskers, and Smoke and Steel made his reputation, and his multivolume life of Abraham Lincoln added a third Pulitzer Prize to the two he won for poetry. He later received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In Radio Days his work is linked to several Cavalcade of America broadcasts, among them Abraham Lincoln and the War Years and The Story of Nancy Hanks.
