Born in Dublin, Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish author, poet and playwright famous for his sparkling wit. His only novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, appeared in 1890, and his stage comedies include Lady Windermere's Fan, An Ideal Husband and The Importance of Being Earnest. He also wrote gentler fairy tales and clever short stories that suited the radio microphone well. The Happy Prince was heard on Columbia Workshop, Family Theater and The Railroad Hour, and Theatre Royal took on Lord Arthur Savile's Crime.
