Born in British India, Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English journalist, novelist, poet and short-story writer. The Jungle Book, published in 1894 and followed by a sequel the next year, made him a household name with young readers, and in 1907 he received the Nobel Prize in Literature. His storytelling carried readers across the far reaches of the empire. In Radio Days you can hear Escape and Suspense take on his 1888 tale The Man Who Would Be King, along with NBC University Theater's version of The Light That Failed, his first novel.
