Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870), often called Dumas père, was a French novelist and playwright and remains one of the most widely read French authors. His swashbuckling historical novels, led by The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask, have been translated into many languages. His output was enormous, running to some 100,000 published pages. Radio returned to him again and again, especially for The Count of Monte Cristo, which turns up in Radio Days on The Mercury Theatre on the Air, Lux Radio Theatre and The Campbell Playhouse, while Theatre of Romance staged The Corsican Brothers.
