Brian Aherne (1902-1986) was an English actor whose career spanned stage, screen, radio and television. He made his Broadway debut in 1931 in The Barretts of Wimpole Street opposite Katharine Cornell, then moved into Hollywood films alongside stars such as Marlene Dietrich and Bette Davis. His role as Emperor Maximilian in Juarez (1939) brought him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and later he appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's I Confess. Radio listeners heard him often, and in Radio Days he turns up on shows such as Lux Radio Theatre, The Screen Guild Theater and NBC University Theater.
