Carole Lombard (1908-1942) was an American actress from Fort Wayne, Indiana, who learned her comic timing in some 18 short comedies for Mack Sennett. Howard Hawks's Twentieth Century, opposite John Barrymore, made her a star, and she became a leading light of screwball comedy in pictures like Nothing Sacred and True Confession. My Man Godfrey, often called her finest work, earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and her last film was Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be. In Radio Days she can be heard on shows such as Lux Radio Theatre, The Screen Guild Theater and The Silver Theater.
