Edna Ferber (1885-1968) was an American novelist, short story writer and playwright who won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1925 for So Big. Her novel Show Boat became a celebrated Broadway musical, and Cimarron and Giant were turned into major films. With George S. Kaufman she wrote stage hits such as Dinner at Eight and Stage Door. Those stories carried over well to radio, where Lux Radio Theatre performed Stage Door and So Big, and The Campbell Playhouse presented Show Boat.
