Sir James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), known as J. M. Barrie, was a Scottish-born British novelist and playwright who moved to London and built a career on a string of successful books and plays. Peter Pan became his best-known creation and overshadowed much of his other writing, which also includes The Admirable Crichton and The Little White Bird. Radio audiences heard several of his stage works, including the plays Quality Street and What Every Woman Knows.
