Speed Riggs was a tobacco auctioneer at Liberty Warehouse in Durham, North Carolina, whose rapid-fire chant became the sound of Lucky Strike. He first went on the air in December 1937 on the Lucky Strike Hit Parade, and in 1938 he was named the Voice of Lucky Strike. He did the brand's commercials on Jack Benny's program and alongside Fred Allen and Kay Kyser, serving as its spokesman for about 33 years.
