Laurence Olivier (1907-1989) was an English actor and director who ranked among the great stage performers of his time. He scored a West End hit in Noël Coward's Private Lives, set box-office records with a 1935 Romeo and Juliet, and later became the founding director of Britain's National Theatre. On screen, Wuthering Heights and Rebecca brought Oscar nominations, and his Hamlet won Best Picture along with the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was knighted in 1947. Radio Days features him on shows such as Theatre Royal, Lux Radio Theatre, The Campbell Playhouse and The Screen Guild Theater.
