Ring Lardner (1885-1933) was an American sports columnist, short story writer, playwright and lyricist with a sharp, satirical ear for how ordinary people talk. His book You Know Me Al, told through letters from a bush-league ballplayer, and his story Haircut are among his best-known work. Ernest Hemingway, Virginia Woolf and F. Scott Fitzgerald all admired his writing. His baseball comedies made lively radio, and Radio Days carries Elmer the Great and Alibi Ike from Lux Radio Theatre, plus June Moon, his Broadway hit with George S. Kaufman, on The Harold Lloyd Comedy Theatre.
