Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish novelist, essayist, poet and travel writer from Edinburgh. His first big success was Treasure Island, and he followed it with Kidnapped, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and the poems of A Child's Garden of Verses. He also wrote shorter tales, many gathered in the 1882 collection New Arabian Nights. Radio producers loved his sense of adventure, bringing Treasure Island to The Mercury Theatre on the Air and his short story The Sire de Maletroit's Door to Escape.
