James Hilton (1900-1954) was an English-born novelist, later an American citizen, who wrote Lost Horizon, Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Random Harvest. Lost Horizon earned him the Hawthornden Prize, and after moving to California he shared an Academy Award for co-writing the screenplay of Mrs. Miniver. He also hosted Hallmark Playhouse on CBS radio for five years. His novels were favorites of radio drama too, with Lux Radio Theatre presenting Goodbye, Mr. Chips and Random Harvest, and The Campbell Playhouse taking on Lost Horizon.
