Lucille Ball (1911-1989) was an American comedian, actress, producer, and studio executive. As an RKO contract player she led so many B-pictures that she was nicknamed Queen of the Bs, and she later found lasting fame on television with I Love Lucy. In 1962 she became the first woman to run a major television studio, Desilu Productions, and her honors include the Kennedy Center Honors and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. On CBS radio she played the scatterbrained wife Liz Cooper in My Favorite Husband, a hit that led the network to ask her to bring it to television.
