Alan Ladd (1913-1964) was an American actor and producer from Hot Springs, Arkansas. His breakout came as the hired gunman in This Gun for Hire (1942), and he followed it with the Raymond Chandler noir The Blue Dahlia and the title role in the western Shane. Radio was where he got his start: from 1936 he spent about three years as the lone staff actor at station KFWB, sometimes doing 20 shows a week. Later he starred in and produced the syndicated adventure series Box 13, and he was a frequent guest on Lux Radio Theatre and Screen Directors Playhouse.
