Charles Laughton (1899-1962) was an English-born stage and screen actor who later became an American citizen. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Private Life of Henry VIII, then played Captain Bligh in Mutiny on the Bounty and Quasimodo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Behind the camera he directed The Night of the Hunter, now in the National Film Registry, and his spoken-word album The Story-Teller won a Grammy. That gift for reading aloud suited radio, and Radio Days has him on Suspense, Cavalcade of America and Lux Radio Theatre.
